“Flavors of Canton” Cupcake and Pie Contest
Congratulations to our Winners, Sarah Ozar and Dianne Williams!
41 entries were narrowed down to 3 finalists in each category (cupcake and pie) based on creativity, flavor combo, and symbolism to Canton. Final judging took place Saturday, April 28th, 2012, as part of the Canton Food Tours Launch Party at Peter Shears, downtown Canton. The winning desserts will be featured on Canton Food Tours on our exciting lineup of tours, beginning May 3.
Submissions were given to our bakers, including Rachel Hogue of Rachel’s Ugly Pies, and Kristina Belliveau of Kristina’s Kreations, to narrow down the list and produce the top three, fun, flavorful products in each category (pie and cupcake).
While the top three in each category were selected from the baker’s success at using the combinations, the overall winner was selected from a panel of distinguished judges:
- Jennifer Mastroianni of The Canton Repository
- Jennifer Wolfe Webb, director of the Cucina at Gervasi Vineyards
- Yvette Otterman, Canton-based “Dreaming of the Next Bite” blogger
Judges selected overall winners based on taste and creativity. The Hall of Fame Cupcake and Best of Both World’s Pie will be featured on Canton Food Tours!
The Hall of Fame Cupcake is a maple flavored cupcake with buttercream icing topped with a slice of candied bacon (in reference to The Pro Football Hall of Fame)
The Best of Both World’ Pie is a chocolate pecan combo in reference to the many chocolate and nut shops in our region – Heggy’s, Milk ‘N Honey, London’s Chocolates, Waggoner’s, among others – with caramel drizzled over the top in reference to football, and whipped cream hidden inside to represent the hidden gems of the Canton Arts District.
